Acai White Tea:was the first Acai supplement that I ever tried. The thought of not having to carry around a bottle of juice or drink something really sweet right after brushing my teeth if I was running late was very appealing. Like the other products they also stand behind their product with a free trial where you pay only $3.95 shipping and handling to try a bottle for free, something that says a lot about a company to me! Acai White Tea definitely works though I feel compared with some of the other products that it might have been slightly less ‘potent’ and for this reason I’m awarding it second place.

It is not sold in stores so don’t be fooled by products with similar names.

The difference with this Acai supplement is that it is a proprietary blend of only the highest quality Acai so you get all the benefit of this amazing antioxidant. This works to help eliminate harmful waste and toxin buildup in the body as well as boost metabolism and energy levels. Aside from all the scientific explanations the results are simply phenomenal and unlike with other Acai supplements there is no taste as it’s in capsule form. This was the simplest as well as most cost-effective method I tried.

In fact honestly I only tried it because of the free trial they offered since for less than a trip to Starbucks what could I lose? Using this product I’ve gotten the continued benefits of Acai and as a bonus I’ve lost 10 pounds. Maybe this is due to the high quality Acai used or their unique blended formula. Whatever the reason I’m sold and I hope you try it and love it too.

There is no one solution to save the Amazon Rainforest. A wide range of sustainable and effective initiatives are needed to keep the forest alive while improving the quality of life for the 20 million people that live there. Obviously this can only be achieved, if economic alternatives and solutions to destructive logging can be found.

Outlined below are just a few of the products that are either currently being produced in the rainforest or that have a potential to provide people living from the forest with sustainable means of income.

1) Rubber
Rubber tapping is a traditional and ecological activity that has been part of the life of the Amazon since the beginning of the century. This activity does not damage the forest as it is not necessary to cut down a rubber tree to extract the latex.

Today about 63,000 families of rubber tappers live in extractive reserves in the Amazon forest. These reserves were established by the Brazilian Government in order to allow rubber tappers to carry out their traditional activities. The reserves currently amount to approximately 1% of the Amazon Rainforest. The National Council of Rubber Tappers wish to designate almost 10% of the Brazilian Amazon as extractive reserves by the year 2000. Presently, only 5,000 tons of rubber are produced from the Amazon to supply 1.4% of the national market for rubber in Brazil.

2) Non – timber forest products
The economic value of a forest extends beyond the value of its timber. Traditionally, indigenous people have harvested many forms of produce from the forest without destroying its ecosystem. Fibres, fruits, seeds, flowers, nuts and honey are just some of the many options of non timber forest products from the forest.

Palm Fruits and Palm Hearts:
The fruits of the Açaí Palm are traditionally used to make a wine rich in minerals. One palm tree produces about 20 kg of fruits per year. The tasty, dark violet wine is the most important non wood forest product in terms of money from the river delta of the Amazon. In 1995 almost 106,000 tons were produced at a value of US $40 million.

The production of Acai palmhearts in 1995 amounted to 190,298 tons worth US$8.9 million. Although the palm tree has to be chopped down in order to extract the palm hearts, the relative ease of replanting in the middle of the forest and quick regeneration of the palms make this a sustainable alternative to large-scale logging. The biggest importers of palmhearts are France, Canada, USA, Spain, Japan, Holland and Belgium.

Fruits and Nuts
The rich vitamins, the exotic flavours and the attraction of new products are providing opportunities to market fruits from the Amazon nationally and internationally. Over 48 native fruits in the Amazon have been identified with a potential for being marketed both national and internationally.

The camu-camu fruit for example contains larger concentrations of vitamin C than any other fruit known today and is imported to the USA to produce vitamin tablets. Cupuaçu is another fruit which due to its specific tropical taste is expected to hit the world market in the coming years.

Additionally, many Indian tribes traditionally collect Brazil nuts and for many of them this is their main source of income.

3) Medicinal plants
More than two-thirds of all mass-produced drugs are derived from medicinal plants, and 80 per cent of the world’s population uses the plants themselves to treat everything from hypertension to syphilis according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). Extracts from the PacificYew in the rainforests of North America which have proven effective against cancer are just one example of a natural occurring remedy in the world’s rainforest and the potential of the Amazon has only begun to be realised. At present, close to 650 species with pharmaceutical effects and economic value have been identified in the Amazon.

4) Ecotourism
Ecotourism has a huge potential in the Amazon and at the moment it is poorly developed. Ecotourism would guarantee low environmental impact on the Amazon rainforest through the application of environmentally friendly technologies and environmentally sensitive accommodation for visitors. Ecotourism could also guarantee that wealth creation from such activities would directly benefit local communities.

Due to its natural beauty the Amazon forest offers many different options for ecotourism and adventure tourism like trekking, rafting, diving, cruising, bird watching and wildlife observation.

In the Amazon there are currently 16 jungle lodges (1997) registered in the Tourist Office of the Amazonas state, offering 1007 beds in total. It is obvious that further development has to be carefully monitored in order to ensure the sustainability of the expansion of this industry.

5) Certified timber
The Amazon Rainforest is the greatest reserve of commercial timber in the whole world estimated at around 60 billion cubic metres. At the moment less than 1% is logged sustainably. Ecologically responsible forest management seeks to ensure that the ecosystem of the forest is not damaged and low volumes are extracted. The impacts on the plant and animal life in the forest from this kind of logging are very small indeed.

Greenpeace is working with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) to develop standards which can promote ecologically responsible forest use in the Brazilian Amazon. The FSC is a global system established to label products from well-managed forests meeting environmental, social and economic principles and criteria of good forest stewardship.

Nature’s Perfect Food – Discover the amazing health benefits of the fruit from the Amazon’s “tree of life”

If you get your health guidance from the mainstream media, you’d think the healthiest way to live is to guzzle red wine and drown everything in olive oil.

That’s basically what they’ve told us in recent years. First, it was the “French paradox”–the fact that the French, who generally eat lots of cheese, cream, and butter; drink lots of wine; and smoke like chimneys, are healthier than Americans. Scientists told us it was all in the wine-specifically, in the anthocyanins-the antioxidant flavonoid that gives red grapes their deep color.

Then it was the “Mediterranean diet,” the traditional way of eating in the regions of Italy and Spain, where olive oil is a staple. We learned that olive oil is a good source of essential fatty acids that are processed right out of many Americanized foods.

I’m not discounting the benefits of either of these phytochemicals. In fact, in a minute I’ll explain exactly why both are so important to good health. I just question the sources recommended in the headlines. There’s got to be a better way to get these valuable nutrients than guzzling wine and drowning in oil.

As it turns out, there is. I learned about it from HSI panelist Jon Barron. He told me about a single superfood from the Amazon that, fresh from the tree, can provide over 30 times the amount of anthocyanins as red wine and all the beneficial fatty acids of olive oil in one delicious, all-natural package. And this is just the beginning of this food’s health benefits. It’s virtually impossible to over-do this food-which is certainly not the case with red wine or olive oil.

Get the healing power of many phytonutrients in one delicious package.
There’s no disputing the health benefits of anthocyanins and essential fatty acids. Both have proven to be powerful nutritional tools in the quest for good health.

Research has shown that plant pigments like anthocyanins are potent antioxidants. The cardiovascular benefits are the most well known; studies show that anthocyanins can help prevent blood clots, improve blood circulation, relax blood vessels, and prevent artherosclerosis. But scientists have also uncovered a whole host of other powerful effects from anthocyanins, including antiviral and antiallergenic properties. Some research even suggests that anthocyanins can prevent cancer, by blocking carcinogenesis on a molecular level and encouraging tumour cell death.

Essential fatty acids have proven just as powerful. Oleic acid, a monounsaturated omega-9 acid, and linoleic acid, a polyunsaturated omega-6 acid, help lower LDL, and maintain healthy HDL levels. They also increase the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins like vitamins A, E, D, and K, which are essential to good health. Research has even suggested that oleic acid may prevent against cancer and hypertension.

Olive oil may be the best known sources of these nutrients, but it is certainly not the only one. It’s the pigment in red grapes that gives wine its anthocyanins-and that same pigment can also be found in other red and purple fruits and vegetables, such as blueberries, red cabbage, and purple sweet potatoes. Oleic acid is also present in pecans and seed oils, and linoleic acid is found in peanuts.

But there is one food that delivers it all-plus other healthy nutrients like fibre, phytosterols, and vitamins C and E. For centuries, it’s been a staple for people in Brazil, yet virtually unknown to anyone outside the region-until now.

Discover the health secret of generations of Amazonian Indians.
It’s called açaí (pronounced ah-sigh-ee), and it’s the fruit of a palm tree that grows in the rainforests of the Amazon-a tree Brazilians call “The Tree of Life.” About 90 percent of the small, round fruit is its hard, inedible pit-but that’s OK, because it’s the outside skin that holds the treasure. That dark purple skin is what contains the anthocyanins.

The natives puree the skins, creating a treat that can be served warm as a sauce over fruit or grains or frozen like a sorbet. They’ve been eating it for centuries, passing down recipes from generation to generation. (The native people have also passed down the story of how açaí was discovered.) Because fruit itself is perishable, its popularity never spread beyond the region.

Then, a few years ago, two friends from California went to Brazil on a surfing expedition and tasted açaí for the first time. Before they even knew the health benefits, they were hooked on the taste. But once they learned that the tasty treat was also a nutritional powerhouse, they knew they had to find a way to bring açaí to the rest of the world.

Superfood fights heart disease, cancer, prostate enlargement, and more.
Since then, the news about açaí has been steadily spreading-and the evidence of nutritional and health benefits just keep piling up. Consider this: a 100-gram serving of açaí contains only 90 calories, just two grams of fat and no cholesterol. Plus, it delivers 3.5 grams of dietary fibre, something we could all use more of in our diets. Improved processing of the fresh fruit is making it possible to preserve more of the fruit’s healthful attributes. Currently, the puree provides more anthocyanins than red wine and has antioxidant concentrations that well outweigh blueberries.

Subsequent research has shown that in addition to the anthocyanins and essential fatty acids, açaí also contains a healthy dose of plant sterols, another class of phytochemicals that have been shown to reduce cholesterol, protect the immune system, and relieve prostate enlargement. In fact, it turns out açaí is in the same family as saw palmetto, a common herbal treatment for prostate enlargement. And researchers at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro have discovered that açaí extract can be used to fight infection, like the parasitic infection schistosomosis which affects 10 million Brazilians each year and the common bacterial infection staphylococcus aureus. It seems there’s no end to this miracle fruit’s health benefits.

Thanks to those Californian surfers, açaí is now available to just about anyone. Their special recipe is based on one created by Brazil’s Gracie family, the founders of Brazilian Jui Jitsu, which is the fastest growing martial art in the world. The recipe combines the powerful health benefits and great taste of açaí with the sweet syrup of the guarana fruit, which has long been touted for its beneficial effects on stamina and concentration.

In some parts of the US, you can purchase açaí in Whole Food Markets. Or you can order direct over the phone or via the Internet. So instead of trying to emulate the French or the folks in the Mediterranean region, consider taking a cue from the native people of the Amazon.

Acai (ah-sigh-ee) is jam packed with supernatural concentrations of vitamins and minerals that provide peerless and incredible health benefits and energy. Read on to find out why acaí has been described by top nutritionists as nature’s wonder food.

Acai is found exclusively in the Brazlian rain forests and its priapic powers are legendary. Acaí has been used by native Indians for centuries as an antidotes for numerous ailments and as legend tells, each fruit was presented by the gods at critical times and used for multiple applications vital to the Indians existence.

Acai is small berry, round and very dark royal purple. It has a large stone and very little pulp. The fruit tastes like a vibrant blend of berries and nuts with a hint of chocolate – it’s a great way to supplement your healthy diet and lifestyle.

Hidden within its royal purple pigment is a powerful combination of antioxidants, to slow down the aging process, high quality protein (amino acids) and essential Omegas (EFAs 6 & 9) for enhanced cerebral performance for increased endurance and heightened mental awareness.

In Brazil where the fruit is now well established amongst within the sporting and lifestyle conscious, it is eaten throughput the day for breakfast, as a meal replacement or snack and by sportspeople as part of their healthy training programmes.

For centuries, acai has been a staple food for the people living in and around the rainforests of Brazil and it is still virtually unknown to anyone outside the region.

The growing popularity of acai has more to do with its amazing nutritional composition than anything else and studies consistently point to acai as one of the most nutritive and fortifying fruits in the world. For further information about what the experts are saying click here . . .

It’s not just that acai has a great refreshing and natural taste – it’s that acai seems to have all of the benefits of many foods all contained within one tasty and energising package. That makes acai a wondefully flexible food that has no bounds to its use.

Amongst the first non-native adopters of acai were surfers who travelled to the amazon coastal region in search of the ultimate surf but who unwittingly discovered what could be described as the ultimate food. The natives introduced the fruit to the surfers who found that the rumours surrounding it were true – the surfers found that their strenuous daily demands were met by eating pulped acai. It’s not a surprise that many top atheletes in brazil and now the US now build acai into their daily diets.

In addition, vitamin E helps with blood circulation and reducing cholesterol.

more anthocyanins than red wine. It’s the pigment in red grapes that gives wine its antioxidant value, and that same pigment can also be found in other red and purple fruits and vegetables, such as blueberries, red cabbage, purple sweet potatoes and acai.

Compared with red wine, acai delivers between 10 and 30 times the level of anthocyanins. But while most of us can’t sit at work all day sipping red wine to stay more healthy, you can tuck into acai for breakfast, as a snack, as a sports food and even as a complete meal replacement.

acai is proving to be an excellent source of essential fatty acids, such as linoleic acid, omega-6 and omega-9. The omega essential fatty acids contained in acai are important for cell development, they help protect the heart and the body uses them for the development and regeneration of the nervous system. Further, the omega acids play a role in brain function, they help strengthen the immune system, while aiding cholesterol management and general healing of the body. That’s why omegas are excellent for muscle repair after exercise.

Amino Acids are often called the building blocks of the body and acai bursting with Amino Acids – for endurance, strength, sustained energy, and muscle development.

the amazon continues to throw up new discoveries such as acai that are helping to advance medical knowledge. Did you know that acai is in the same family as ‘saw palmetto’, a common herbal treatment for prostate enlargement? When testing the fruit extract against prostate cancer, scientists became so confident that they have already asked for patents of the acai extract. And researchers have discovered that extract can be used to fight infection.

So why has such a great food with so many health and nutritional benefits been kept so quiet and largely unavailable until now?

The main reason for açaí being such a new produce in the European market is largely due to the delicate composition of acai. Unlike bananas, oranges and other fruits that can remain good once harvested, the acai fruit begins to deteriorate once picked and its beneficial properties are lost quickly. For the native amazonian indians who have traditionally eaten the fruit at source, the problem of deterioration has not been an issue. However, since the consumption of acai has remained a local occurence, a lot of each year’s harvest has gone to waste.

Increasing travel to the amazon by brazilians and foreign travellers has meant that local foods such as acai have been ‘discovered’ by non-natives and this has led to demand for such foods outside of the local community. At the same time, there has been a regional drive to develop sustainable farming practices that encourage the maintenance of the rainforests rather than their systematic destruction.

The farming of natural forest foods – such as acai – provides sustainable income for the region’s population. Yearly harvests mean that it now makes sense to protect the rain forests rather than destroy them for other reasons.

Acai Berry is a rather special type of grape for the properties it has.

First, is a perfect antioxidant, as we have mentioned in other foods: tomatoes, strawberries, peppers, cherries, green tea, etc.. A portion of this property makes less fat than other foods, so it is appropriate to put him on a diet as food.

Some consider the Acai Berry as the natural Viagra. We have not checked but it is true that it has aphrodisiac properties.

Moreover, among its other properties, we can take advantage of this fruit: it protects the immune system (ie, is good for defenses), contains essential fatty acids and amino acids, and as mentioned above helps aging well (because antioxidant) and is energizing.

As an interesting note that the grapes contains 300% more antioxidants than a conventional type of grape.

Many people today consume their high content of vitamins, antioxidants and essential fatty acids, which are necessary to achieve balanced health, however, medical experts have been conducting tests on the Acai berry that point to another use, time to recovery from illness.

One of the diseases to which it has focused the study is leukemia, which was created six different mixtures containing extract of Acai, patients received one of six and the final results showed that four of these mixtures were incredibly powerful.

Leading to death a large number of leukemia cells and contributed to improving the health of patients in general. How?; Acai berries helps improve the digestive system and increased metabolism of patients, allowing them to maintain weight and health.

One of the biggest drawbacks, however, is that both the metabolism such as digestion vary widely from person to person and mixtures of natural Acai berries did not affect all patients the same way, which means that for now, the usefulness of the Acai berry as drugs is still under debate.

Benefits of antioxidants:

The Acai Berry are commonly called “super food” due to high beneficial qualities it contains, but one of the great qualities that can be purchased through the juice of the Acai berry anthocyanins and flavonoids are antioxidants.

These antioxidants neutralize free radicals in the body, decreasing the risk of diseases such as cancer and heart disease.

Acai berries contain more antioxidants than blueberries, black berries, raspberries and strawberries.
